Greg Riewer laid to rest

FRAZEE, Minn. More than 1,500 people filled the gymnasium at the high school in this western Minnesota town Wednesday to remember a local National Guard soldier who was killed in Iraq.

Sgt. Greg N. Riewer, 28, of Frazee was killed March 23 by a roadside bomb while on patrol in Fallujah with other soldiers from the Bemidji-based Company A, 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry.

Bishop Victor Balke of the Crookston Catholic Diocese officiated at the funeral Mass. The Rev. Joseph DeCrans of Sacred Heart Catholic Church told the crowd that Riewer will be remembered as a quiet outdoorsman who sought adventure.

Several public officials attended the funeral, including U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.; Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau; state Rep. Paul Marquart, DFL-Dilworth; and state Sen. Keith Langseth, DFL-Glyndon.

Riewer, a 1997 graduate of Frazee High School and one of 13 children in his family, was buried in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.
