Victor Langarica laid to rest

Friends and family gathered Sunday to say goodbye to a fallen Metro Atlanta soldier.

Sergeant Victor Langarica's wake was held Sunday afternoon at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in DeKalb County.

Langarica died last week when the Blackhawk helicopter he was in was shot down in Iraq.

Langarica entered the military in 2001 and served proudly in Afghanistan before being redeployed to Iraq.

Langarica's mother told 11Alive News earlier this week that when her son was deployed to Iraq, he had a premonition that he wouldn't return home alive.

At Langarica's wake Sunday, his godmother Ancisca Lucas echoed those concerns.

"Victor, the last days, he was afraid. He felt afraid, he was here in November and after he was going back, he said ' I might not see you again mom,'" said Lucas.

Langarica is survived by his mother and two young children.
