Scene of a mortar attack today in Baghdad which killed 15 in a Sunni neighborhood

BAGHDAD - Mortar bombs killed 15 people and wounded 56 others in Baghdad's Sunni Arab neighbourhood of Adhamiya in Baghdad, Interior Ministry sources said.

BAGHDAD - Clashes erupted between gunmen and police in the religiously mixed district of Amil in Baghdad, killing seven people and wounding 11, Interior Ministry sources said.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb killed four people and wounded nine in the Doura district of southern Baghdad, police said.

KHALIS - A car bomb aimed against a police patrol killed four officers in the town of Khalis, 80 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BASRA - Gunmen killed Sheikh Khalil al-Maliki, a local leader of the political group of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, in the southern city of Basra, police said.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army killed 16 insurgents and arrested 88 during the preceding 24 hours in different parts of Iraq, the Defence Ministry said.

NEAR RIYADH - Gunmen ambushed an Iraqi army patrol, killing one soldier and wounding another near the town of Riyadh 40 km (25 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, Iraqi army said.

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military is adjusting its tactics in Iraq after four helicopters were shot down in the past two weeks, U.S. military spokesman Major-General William Caldwell said on Sunday.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded in a main bus terminal in Baghdad's Bab al-Muadham district, killing four people and wounding seven, police said.

NEAR HILLA - Police found the body of Aqil al-Jenabi, a colonel in the Iraqi army 8th division, in an area near the city of Hilla, 100 km (60 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Police and Iraqiya state television said U.S. forces wounded Suhad Shakir, an anchor working for Iraqiya, when they fired on her car near the Foreign Ministry in central Baghdad. The U.S. military said it was checking the report.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb wounded five people in Ilaam district in southern Baghdad, police said.
