Iraqis cover the body of a woman killed in a car bombing today in the holy city of Najaf. At least 13 died in the attack.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded near a petrol station in the southern Saidiya district of Baghdad, killing five people and wounding 11, police said. Another police source put the toll at three killed and 12 wounded.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded near a wholesale vegetable market in the southern Doura district of Baghdad, killing five people and wounding 20, police said.

BAGHDAD - Twenty people were found shot dead on Monday in different districts of Baghdad, police said.

HAWIJA - An oil installation guard was wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near his patrol in the town of Hawija, 70 km (40 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, police said.

TAJI - A truck exploded near a restaurant in the town of Taji, 20 km (12 miles) north of Baghdad. It killed five and wounded 138, including women and children poisoned by chlorine gas that the truck was carrying, police said. They said the blast may have been a bomb attack but they were investigating whether it could have been an accident. They initially said the truck was carrying liquid natural gas.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb killed at least three people and wounded 40 in the Baghdad Shi'ite stronghold of Sadr City, police sources said. The bomb exploded outside a restaurant in a market district of Sadr City. One police source put the toll at three while another said four were killed.

BAGHDAD - Police found seven bodies tortured and shot dead on a road in Ghaziliya in western Baghdad, a police source said.

BAGHDAD - Mortar bombs killed three people and wounded 10 in Bayaa district in southwest Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Mortars wounded four children in Adil district in western Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military said initial reports indicated that a Black Hawk helicopter with nine people on board had made a "hard landing" north of Baghdad. Another U.S. helicopter picked up those on board.

It was unclear why the helicopter made such a landing, but Iraqi police captain Mahmoud al-Mashhadani said he saw some type of projectile hitting the aircraft before it came down.

KIRKUK - A car bomb in a market wounded 10 people in the ethnically mixed city of Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. Two roadside bombs also exploded in quick succession in a bus terminal in the centre of the city, wounding nine peope, police and hospital source said.

NAJAF - A suicide car bomb killed 11 people, including four policemen, and wounded 38 at a police checkpoint near a busy market in the holy city of Najaf, south of Baghdad, Dr. Riyadh al-Shibli said. A spokesman at the police media office in Najaf put the death toll at 13.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army killed three insurgents and arrested 28 during the last 24 hours in different parts of Baghdad, the Defence Ministry said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a police commando patrol killed one policeman and wounded three in southern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A total of 25 bodies were found shot dead on Tuesday in different districts of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - The bodies of eight people, including three policemen, were found shot dead on Tuesday in different parts of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

HAWIJA - Four Iraqi soldiers were killed and nine wounded on Tuesday night as tried to dismantle a bomb planted inside their base in the town of Hawija, 70 km (40 miles) southwest of Baghdad, the Iraqi-U.S. Joint Coordination Centre said.

ANBAR PROVINCE - Two U.S. soldiers were killed in combat in separate incidents on Tuesday, the U.S. military said.

TARMIYA - The U.S. military issued an update on an insurgent assault on a U.S. outpost in Tarmiya, north of Baghdad, on Monday in which two U.S. soldiers were killed, as previously reported. A U.S. statement said 29 soldiers were wounded, more than its initial report that 17 had been wounded. During the attack, insurgents used small arms fire, rocket-propelled grenades and a car bomb, it said.
