MOSUL - The bodies of seven people, including those of a journalist working for a Shi'ite newspaper and an Iraqi army officer, were found in various parts of Mosul 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police and hospital sources said.

* BASMAIA - Police recovered three unidentified bodies with gunshot wounds and bearing signs of torture in Basmaia, 45 km (28 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

*BAGHDAD - Police found the bodies of 10 people, most of them tortured and shot in the head, around Baghdad in the 24 hours up to Friday evening, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Police recovered 37 bodies in the 24 hours to Thursday evening, most of them tortured and shot, apparently victims of death squads, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Police in Baghdad found 31 bodies, many shot dead and tortured, in the 24 hours to Saturday night, an interior ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Mortars landed in the Baghdad district of Zaafaraniya on Saturday, killing one woman and wounding 10 people, police said.

KIRKUK - Gunmen opened fire on several engineers and construction workers south of Kirkuk, killing two and wounding three, police and hospital sources said.

ISHAQI - Gunmen shot dead three civilians on Friday in the town of Ishaqi, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAIJI - Gunmen killed two civilians and stole their vehicle in Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

ISKANDARIYA - Police found two bodies, tortured, blindfolded and shot dead, in Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police said. One victim was a policeman.

FALLUJA - Iraqi police and army detained 47 suspected insurgents in Falluja on Tuesday, the U.S. military said.
