Nicholas P. Brown dies of injuries from I.E.D.

DAYTON, Ohio -- Everyone who knew Army Spc. Nicholas Brown said he was a soldier, son, father and friend. Now, the 24-year-old Vandalia-Butler High School graduate was killed in Iraq on Monday.

After graduating from high school, Brown joined the Army in 2004. He leaves behind his wife, Sara, and their son who was born on Jan. 14.

Brown was on leave from his duty recently and was in Dayton for the birth of his newborn son, Nicholas Jr. He was killed on Monday in Iraq just days after returning to duty.

His family released a statement, saying Nick was very proud to serve his country. They said he enjoyed playing pool, being with friends and taking care of his family. The statement went on to say it was a blessing that he was able to briefly see his son before returning to Iraq.

Brown previously served in the Army Reserve before switching to active duty in 2004.
