Jason J. Corbett slain by sniper
A Fort Richardson-based paratrooper died of injuries from enemy small-arms fire while on patrol in Karmah, Iraq, on Monday, Jan. 15.
The Department of Defense identified him Sunday as Spc. Jason J. Corbett, 23, of Casper, Wyo. Next of kin have been notified.
Corbett was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
He is the 13th Fort Richardson-based soldier from the airborne brigade who has died since the unit was deployed last fall, and the 57th soldier from or based in Alaska to die since the war began.
