Ian Anderson laid to rest
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A Johnson County soldier was laid to rest Friday.
Sgt. Ian Anderson, from Prairie Village, was killed in Mosul, Iraq, on Jan. 15. The Defense Department said Anderson and three others were killed when a bomb exploded near their vehicle. They were members of the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Bliss, Texas.
His funeral was held Friday morning at Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park.
KMBC reported that 120 members of the Kansas Patriot Guard were on hand to pay their respects and to support the family. The Patriot Guard also helped protect the family from protesters from a Topeka church.
"Sgt. Andersen was a father, a son and he was a husband. You cannot offer a bigger sacrifice than giving your life for your country in the name of freedom," said Deems Peterson with the Patriot Guard.
Anderson went to Shawnee Mission High East High School. He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
