Alan Blohm laid to rest
BAY COUNTY (WJRT) - (01/10/07)--Friends and family said their final goodbyes Wednesday to a Bay County soldier who was killed in Iraq.
They were there to lay to rest Army Pvt. Alan Blohm, of Kawkawlin.
Since Alan's family learned of his death last Tuesday, they requested their privacy from the public and the media. But a couple of local women felt that Alan's sacrifice should not go unnoticed.
So Kathy and Patty Wackerle asked people from the community to come out and help line a two-mile stretch of Beaver Road with American flags. The route leads from Saint Bartholomew's Lutheran Church to the Heavenly Rest Cemetery, where Blohm was buried early this afternoon.
They were joined by other groups, including the Patroit Riders, the motorcycle riders' group that travels the state and country to attend the funerals of fallen soldiers.
"The response is overwhelming with all the people here and showing their support, coming and getting flags and taking them down Beaver Road or putting them into the ground or just holding them," said support organizer Patty Wackerle.
"The only thing we can do is show our support."
Blohm was killed New Year's Eve in an explosion.
He was a 2004 graduate of Bay City Western High School. His family says he had been deployed to Baghdad just three months ago.
