Billy Farris laid to rest
Army Corporal Billy Farris was laid to rest Tuesday on the Gila River Indian Community.
Farris was killed last week in Iraq when a bomb exploded under his vehicle on the road from Mosul to Baghdad.
Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral mass at the century-old St. Peter's Mission Church.
Honor guards from several of Arizona's tribal nations escorted the flag-draped casket from the church to the cemetery as a traditional Native American drum corps played a tribute to Farris.
The soldiers parents were presented with their son's Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals before he was lowered into the ground, buried near several other Native American veterans.
Farris was 20-years-old and grew up in the small town of Bapchule on the Gila River Indian Community. He planned to study Engineering when he left the Army.
