Kyle Powell dies from combat wounds
Friends and family are mourning the loss of a young marine from Colorado Springs. 21-year-old Corporal Kyle W. Powell was killed in Iraq on Saturday during combat operations against hostile forces. He was on patrol with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion. His parents, both retired Army, tell 11 News they are very proud of their son and his fellow marines for choosing to serve his country during 3 tours of duty in Iraq. Kyle graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 2003 and was an Eagle Scout. Word of Kyle's death comes just a day after news that Fort Carson soldier, Lieutenant Colonel Eric Kruger was killed in an Iraq bombing last Thursday. Kruger was Deputy Commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
