James Lee Bridges killed by small arms fire

Baghdad--An Idaho soldier is shot dead while serving in Iraq.

22-year old Specialist James Bridges, from Buhl, was killed by enemy gun fire on Saturday.

Specialist James Bridges is the 18th Idaho soldier to die in Iraq in the last three and a half years.

He was from Buhl, but stationed out of Fort Wainwright in Alaska.

He was known by his high school classmates as Doug and graduated from Buhl High School in 2003.

Specialist Bridges was assigned to the 172nd striker brigade combat team.

Bridges unit were military police, Bridges was part of the striker unit.

The Idaho National Guard says Bridges’ job was to be an air guard. He would sit on top the striker vehicle looking for enemy fire. It was that same enemy fire that took his life while patrolling in Baghdad.

No other soldiers were killed in the attack.

The Department of Defense told me more information is expected sometime tomorrow.

Bridges' father is a Buhl firefighter.
