Richard A. Buerstetta killed in combat
A U.S. Marine Reservist from Franklin has been killed in Iraq, the Pentagon announced this afternoon.
Lance Cpl. Richard A. Buerstetta, 20, was killed in combat Monday in Al Anbar province.
Buerstetta was slain with a fellow member of his battalion, Lance Cpl. Tyler R. Overstreet, 22, of Gallatin. Family and friends had made Overstreet’s name public prior to the official announcement today of Buerstetta’s death.
The two were assigned to the Nashville-based 3rd Battalion of the 24th Marine Regiment, part of the 4th Marine Division.
