Servicemen, families come to grips with high cost of war


David Christoff, Sr., whose son, David, Jr., was killed in Iraq four months ago, says the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, fuelded his son's desire to join the Marine Corps.

David Christoff, Sr., has never been to Ground Zero. He knows it’s time to go.

He needs to see the vast space where the World Trade Center once pierced the sky. He needs to touch the soil where so many people lost their lives.

He needs to see first-hand where his son’s desire to join the military was born.

But first he has to go to Arlington National Cemetery. That’s where his son is now.

Marine Corps Sgt. David Christoff, Jr., was killed May 22 during his second tour in Iraq. Mr. Christoff said the terrorist attacks of five years ago prompted his son to join the Marines.
